Postmortal Spirit World Customer Review and Book Signing

Postmortal Spirit World is the result of a multi-year project by Mark Sheffield, a local San Jose CPA and personal friend for 35 years.  His love and enthusiasm for the gospel and doctrinal knowledge is infectious.  It has been interesting to watch the journey to bring this work to press.  He has published other small projects (What Would Jesus Do? and Read the Instructions to name a couple), but this has been a major undertaking resulting in the formation of Shiloh Press to publish and distribute this work as well as other projects and items.  Shiloh Press was formed as a non-profit with proceeds going to benefit charity.  Officers and authors do not take monetary compensation.  To read more about Shiloh Press and the other items they publish click here

It has been interesting to see customers' reactions to this book.  The title captures their attention as this is a subject of widespread interest to most folks.  We have had a customer buy the book and come back after reading it to buy copies for all his children.  Everyone who has read has been very positive.  Click here for a link to a scholarly review posted at the Association of Mormon Letters.  Just yesterday I was on the phone with Charlene who used to live locally but now lives in Mississippi.  She was calling to order another copy of Postmortal.  She had seen our email about the book and ordered it online.  She could not put it down when she started reading and was so impressed she has been telling her friends about it.  She lent her copy to a friend who after reading it wanted her own copy, so Charlene gave her that copy as a gift and was calling to order another one as she wanted to keep one as a reference.  She gave me her permission to share her comments as a customer review.

Charlene found the book well-written, self-explanatory and easy to understand.  She commented that "You don't have to be a scholar to understand it."  She liked the question and answer format and found many of the diagrams to be extremely informative and helpful.  She had no idea there was so much information from the scriptures and general authorities about this topic and found it fascinating and inspirational.  She has been a member of our church for over 30 years and had never heard about many of topics mentioned and explained in this book.  I think if there had been more time to chat she could have kept going giving me additional examples of exciting insights she had gained.

Saturday, November 19, 2011, Mark Sheffield will be at our store signing Postmortal Spirit World and other Shiloh Press titles between 1-3 pm.  If you can't make it but would like to have one of these books signed by the author, let us know and we will be happy to arrange with him to have them signed.  Click here to read more about the book on our website.

LDS Hymns of Worship CD Missionary Recommendation!

Here is a recommendation from our missionary daughter Amy. In honor of her recommendation these CDs are now on sale for $13.58, 20% off regular price! Click here to order on our website.

From Amy:

My CD I have called, "LDS Hymns of Worship" (Various Artists) is my favorite CD I have and every one of my comps I've had (long-term or temporary) has loved it as well, and wants their own copy. I figured I would let you know so you could recommend it to people/missionaries/future missionaries. I really like it a lot, it's just arrangements of hymns by different artists, some instrumental, but they are all peaceful and uplifting pieces. In fact, when I first started driving and I was not "in charge" of the music, I would notice I really liked the song playing and would ask, "What CD is this?" and almost every time it would be LDS Hymns of Worship, but different tracks. Or the same track, because the song would catch my attention every time I heard it. It is really just a good CD.

Christmas Jars Reunion by Jason Wright

Review by Susan

This is a sequel to Christmas Jars, the runaway bestseller of a few years ago. The story of Hope Jensen continues as she seeks to expand the Christmas Jar phenomenon which she begins to view as a ministry to share the spirit of giving engendered by this tradition. As the Christmas Jars tradition spreads over the country from Chuck's Chicken 'n' Biscuits diner, new characters and their stories are combined with elements of sorrow, romance, lives changed and a community brought together by a lofty goal. In the end, Hope learns about the true nature of the gift of love represented by a Christmas Jar from a very special little girl named Queen.

Surround Yourself with Greatness by Chad Lewis

Review by Jim

This book written by former BYU and NFL football star Chad Lewis is more than a memoir of his sports life. He attributes his success in all things to the great people and role models that he has been able to rub shoulders with over his lifetime. This book is a combination sports book and a book dealing with the challenges of life. He shares “We live in a world of relationships that are dynamic. We need each other. We need to choose, with conscious awareness, to open our eyes, heart, and mind to the great people who elevate life that are all around us.” I liked this book because I followed the career of Chad Lewis and was fascinated by the behind-the-scene stories that are rarely told to the public. This would be an especially good gift for a sports fan but could also appeal to anyone interested in self-improvement.
